Roulette is one of the simplest games to understand and play requiring no special skills.
There are in principle 3 different forms of the game:
• European Roulette
• American Roulette
• French Roulette
This explanation will focus on European Roulette which is the most popular and at the end will point out the differences between that and the other two games.

There are three pieces of equipment in the game; the Roulette Wheel, the Table and the Ball.
The Roulette Wheel has 37 slots into which the Ball may fall. The slots are numbered from 0 to 36, are randomly positioned around the wheel and are coloured either black or red. Please note that the Zero (0) is usually green but is never black or red. The significance of this will become clear at the end of the “How to Play” section.
The Croupier will spin the wheel gently in one direction usually alternating between clockwise and anticlockwise and will then set the ball rolling around the wheel edge in the opposite direction. In Online casinos this happens when the bets are placed. As the ball slows down it will eventually come to rest in one of the numbered slots.
The simple object of the game is to predict into which slot the ball will fall.
The Table is the place where bets are placed to forecast where the Ball will end.
Each Casino has its own graphics and methods of placing bets so we recommend that you read the instructions for the particular casino in which you wish to play. The basic principles however remain the same. Most Casinos have a “Free Play” option that will enable you to practise placing bets.
First select the stake that you wish your chips to represent, then place your chip or chips on the table to forecast the number of the slot on the wheel into which you think the ball will fall. If you are right you win; it’s as simple as that.
There are many ways in which to place bets and we shall run through the main ones here. You can place as many different bets as you wish on a single spin of the wheel.
With this bet you place your chips on a single number on the table. You can bet on any number including zero. You can place multiple straight up bets on a single spin of the wheel. The payout odds for a winning straight up bet are 35:1. Your winning bet stake remains on the table.
With this bet you place your chips on the line between two adjacent numbers on the table thereby betting on both numbers. You can place multiple split bets on a single spin of the wheel. The payout odds for a winning split bet are 17:1. Your winning bet stake remains on the table.
With this bet you place your chips on the line at the end of a row of numbers thereby betting on all three numbers in that row. You can place multiple street bets on a single spin of the wheel. The payout odds for a winning street bet are 11:1. Your winning bet stake remains on the table.
With this bet you place your chips on the point in the corner where 4 numbers meet thereby betting on all four numbers. You can place multiple corner bets on a single spin of the wheel. The payout odds for a winning corner bet are 8:1. Your winning bet stake remains on the table.
This bet is very similar to the Street bet described above except that this bet covers two rows instead of one thereby betting on six numbers. You can place multiple six line bets on a single spin of the wheel The payout odds for a winning six line bet are 5:1. Your winning bet stake remains on the table.
With this bet you place your chips in the box at the bottom of a column of numbers thereby betting on all twelve numbers in that column. You can place multiple column bets on a single spin of the wheel The payout odds for a winning column bet are 2:1. Your winning bet stake remains on the table.
With this bet you place your chips in one of three designated boxes. You are betting on twelve numbers at a time being either 1 to 12; 13 to 24; or 25 to 36. Some tables refer to these as 1st 12; 2nd 12 and 3rd 12. You can place multiple dozen bets on a single spin of the wheel. The payout odds for a winning dozen bet are 2:1. Your winning bet stake remains on the table.
With this bet you place your chips in one of two designated boxes. You are betting on eighteen numbers at a time being either 1 to 18 or 19 to 36. The payout odds for a winning Hi-Low bet are 1:1. Your winning bet stake remains on the table.
With this bet you place your chips in one of two designated boxes. You are betting on the winning number being Black or Red. The payout odds for a winning Black-Red bet are 1:1. Your winning bet stake remains on the table.
With this bet you place your chips in one of two designated boxes. You are betting on the winning number being an Odd number or an Even number. The payout odds for a winning Odd-Even bet are 1:1. Your winning bet stake remains on the table.
Watch out for the number 0 (zero). You can bet on zero but only in a straight up bet or a split bet. Zero is neither odd nor even and it is green, not black or red.
In American Roulette there is a 37th number which is 00 (Double zero). This reduces your odds of winning.
French Roulette is the same as European Roulette except that the table layout is different.
The Bets described above are the most usual bets placed and indeed in some on line casinos are the only bets available. As a point of note only you may come across casinos that offer an alternative layout which enables other groups of bets to be placed. For example it may be possible to bet on 0 and the two numbers either side of 0 as they appear on the Roulette wheel (3,26,32,15).
