Fortunately a much changed Republic side deservedly won the game against World Cup hosts South Africa 1-0 last night but tonight is the qualifiers and that makes it football time again at Boylesports. There are a lot of interesting bets but to focus on the UK we have England, Scotland, N. Ireland and Wales all in action. England are clear favourites to beat Slaven Bilic’s Croatia at 8/13 and despite some pretty mediocre performances in recent friendlies they have performed well in qualifying games. If you think they are up to winning it in the first half then a bet on England being ahead at half time and full time is at 6/4.
Scotland will have a tough task ahead trying to beat Holland and hence the 11/5 on offer and if Holland are on form then 11/10 seems fair odds. Northern Ireland take on Slovakia and this could go either way; even Boylesports are not that sure offering 6/4 NI and 13/8 Slovakia so actually 9/4 the draw might be a better bet. Wales stand no chance against Russia according to the bookmaker who is offering 5/1 with Russia at 8/15. They might well be right so a half time/ full time bet on Russia looks maybe more attractive at 13/10.
Whilst on football, the book is now open on where David Beckham will be plying his trade come Christmas. Keen to get a place in the squad for the World Cup you would think that a Premiership club would be the aim but actually AC Milan are 1/2 favourites to take him back. Of the Premiership clubs Chelsea are of course out of the running and a return to Manchester United is a pretty remote chance, Manchester City have probably spent enough for the time being which only leaves Arsenal at 16/1 or Liverpool from the big four but Spurs could be interested and they are quoted at 4/1 second favourite. If you fancy an oddball move, how about 25/1 to join Sven at Notts County? But the wages might be a bit steep or 28/1 to rejoin Real Madrid.
Who knows but it is all good fun.
