Caribbean Stud Poker is a great game for beginners at the game of poker or for those who do not like the idea of playing against other people as it is played against the dealer. An additional advantage is that you know what your stake is before you start and you cannot be dragged into “all ins” as in other poker games. It is believed that the game of Caribbean Stud was first played in the King International Casino on the island of Aruba in the 1980s and it is really a cross between poker and blackjack, the similarity with blackjack being that you are playing against the dealer and one of the dealers cards is showing. Playing Caribbean stud is simplicity itself and commences with the player placing a bet called the Ante. There will be a maximum and minimum value for the Ante bet for each table and of course you can vary your bet each hand. The dealer will then deal 5 cards to the player, which will be face up in an online casino and 5 cards to the dealer one of which will be face up; at this point you have to evaluate whether your hand is better than the dealers; if you think it is you place a further bet often called the raise which is the same value as the Ante, the cards are turned over and if you have the better hand you win except that there is one proviso and that is that in order for the hand to count the dealer must have what is called a qualifying hand. A qualifying hand in Caribbean Stud is usually an Ace and a King or better. In the event that you have placed a raise bet and the dealer does not have a qualifying hand your raise bet is returned and your Ante bet is paid at even money. If you do not consider your hand to be better than the dealers you simply hit the surrender button and you lose your ante bet. Caribbean Stud Poker is a fast simple game and your odds of winning are quite good.
