With the current enormous range of casino games we can now access through the online casinos it is easy to forget the more traditional casino games we used to play. Granted most of us did not have a great deal of choice before the online casinos became available, but casino games such as roulette and blackjack gave us a great deal of enjoyment and still offer good value online. In fact these two traditional casino still rank very highly among online casino games players because they are both easy to play and both also offer a very good chance of winning compared to other casino games. Winning at roulette is of course purely a matter of luck in spite of mostly unproven claims of winning systems, but the chances of winning at blackjack can be enhanced with a little thought. The biggest mistake made by less experienced blackjack players is to believe that you have to aim to hold 20 or 21 in order to win. This ignores the fundamental objective of blackjack, which is simply to beat the dealer’s hand. If the dealer busts, any legitimate blackjack hand wins and remember that the dealer must draw a card on 16 with a corresponding statistical 60% chance that that drawn card will take the total above 21. Playing blackjack successfully generally requires playing the odds, particularly when holding cards totalling 12 to 16. For example drawing a card on 12 provides a 70% chance of improving the hand, but drawing a card on 16 reduces those odds to 40%. We are not suggesting that there are no occasions when following your gut instinct would be wrong, just that you at least be aware of the odds of success when drawing that card and of course even more important assess the dealer’s potential hand.
