Your favourite movie or TV programme could soon become your favourite slot or video game as well. There is already a strong link between popular slots and movies, TV programmes and comic book heroes with online casinos such as William Hill offering Spiderman, The Hulk and X men while the Irish bookmaker Boylecasino offers Transformers, Dungeons and Dragons and Da Vinci Diamonds but a recently announced deal between MGM Studios and Freemantle Media promises to take it to the next level. Freemantle Media is one of the largest creators and producers of global entertainment brands that as recently as February this year announced a cash and rights minority investment in Ludia, a leading developer and publisher of interactive games based in Montreal Canada. Freemantle already had a license agreement with Ludia for The Price is Right and American Idol but the tie up is expected to expand this quite quickly. Freemantle has a long list of brands including X factor and TV dramas such as The Bill and Neighbors but where it will go with the MGM venture is not yet known. Some of the more likely candidates are hit movies such as Fame, Stargate and Robocop and how about a slot with The Good The Bad and The Ugly or better yet A Fistful of Dollars, the potential is enormous.
Paul Kanereck, an MGM spokesperson said that MGM “has brands that people have grown up with, and which have strong themes such as westerns, Ancient Egypt and science fiction”. It would appear that many could translate into games for the online casino market.
