Most winning hands are paid out at evens, but there are exceptions. If the two open cards have a spread of 3 or less the chances of a winning hand are much reduced and the pay-out is normally higher than even money. There are also other possible situations, for example if the open cards are consecutive numbers a winning hand is impossible and the game is declared void and the stake returned. The two open cards could also be a pair, in which case the hand is either declared void or if the player is very lucky and the blind card matches the pair, the winnings can be as high as 11/1.
