How many of you have gambled hoping that God would be on your side? For Reverend Trapp that was surely a given when he entered a Poker tournament to try to win money for the Church. Reverend Trapp who comes from St Michael’s Church and School in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina decided that they needed a new church and asked around for permission to enter a PokerStars tournament with a top prize of $5 million which he would then donate to the church funds. As it happens, he did not win the top prize but did extremely well by walking away with $100,000 which was a welcome boost to church funds. There were of course mixed feelings about somebody from the church gambling but the Reverend pointed out that the tournament was free to enter and he therefore did not see it as gambling. We have to agree with him; after all, if the tournament is free to enter there is nothing to lose and by definition gambling is a win or lose situation so his interpretation of it as an opportunity to raise funds is a very real one. He also went out of his way to point out that the church is not against gambling or indeed drinking as long as it is in moderation which it seems the majority of his congregation agree with. We are not too sure that the losers will appreciate the “outside help” he may have received.
