Setting up and operating an online gambling business can be an expensive and time consuming business which precludes a lot of small independent bookmakers from participating; it is not only the initial outlay but also the 24/7 support, the obtaining of licenses and the software required that make it difficult. Now seven small independent bookmakers in Ireland have decided to join forces to create an online site. They are Bambury run by Jimmy Finlay around Dublin and Leinster, Hackett which has been around for nearly 45 years and has over 60 branches, John Mulholland who has been around for nearly 75 years and operates in Galway, Limerick and Mayo, Terry Rogers who has 13 shops in the Dublin, Waterford, Wicklow areas, Pat Toolan who operate 9 shops in the Dublin area, Track Bookmakers who are nationwide but only operate around 20 shops and finally Tully who started life in Co Meath but now operates over 35 shops across the country. The company that has been set up is called Collegewood Street and is backed by Dublin investment group Raglan Capital. The bookmakers are promoting the site from inside their shops and are hoping to rival large Irish bookmakers Paddy Power and Boylesports. We shall keep our eyes on this for you and report back once the site is more developed but we think they may be missing the point of online gambling if they are targeting purely established Irish bookmakers; the whole point of online gambling is that you can choose a bookmaker from anywhere in the world which is why we have done the research for you and recommend a number of sites including Irish ones.
